Top U.K. travel company, MyTravelMoney.co.uk, names Bassa’s Blog as a Bronze Award Winner in its 2012 Top 5 Funniest Travel Blogs Awards.

Acknowledged as the “Oscars of the Travel Blogging world” the awards are a celebration of travel blogging excellence.

“As avid followers of a variety of travel blogs, we wanted to acknowledge and reward the sheer breadth of entertaining, educating and inspiring travel content.” Daniel Abrahams, Managing Director, MyTravelMoney.co.uk

In announcing the winners, chief editor Lynda Hamilton said, “Welcome to the daily diary of Bassa – a large, Caucasian Shepherd dog living in Tbilisi in the Republic of Georgia. This multi award winning blog documents the world of Tbilisi through Bassa’s eyes and is followed by 5,000 people worldwide.

Written by Mike Day, who also authors the successful Georgia About blog, which featured in one of our previous awards categories, it’s not only funny but gives a great insight into what real life is like in every day Georgia. Bassa is pretty cute, too. Just take a look at her profile pic to see what we mean. Congratulations, Bassa, you’ve landed our Bronze badge.”

Bassa’s Blog is delighted and honoured to be chosen as a Bronze Award Winner in these prestigious awards.

Thank you MyTravelMoney.co.uk

I need a bigger blog!

Tall person has been very busy undertaking reporting missions for his Georgia About blog but after this morning’s walk around the neighborhood we sat down to do some catch up on Bassa’s Blog.

It’s always great to hear that our blogging friends have received blogging awards and June was a bumper month for nominations. Fantastic!

Illuminating Blogger Award

My very good friends, Bella and DiDi at Paws to talk received a paw full of awards last month, including the Illuminating Blogger Award – all of the awards are richly deserved.

Congratulations Bella and DiDi and thank you for thinking of Bassa’s Blog when passing on this fabulous award!

Bella and DiDi are two black Standard Poodles and together they are the ‘agony aunts’ of the canine world.

Their sound advice has made them THE place to go if you have a problem. Standard Poodles aren’t called one of the smartest breeds in the world for nothing!

Readers Appreciation Award

Congratulations to Misaki at misadventuresofmisaki blog on receiving the Readers Appreciation Award and thank you very much for passing it to Bassa’s Blog.

We always appreciate reading your blog!

Misaki is an Alaskan Malamute puppy who enjoys eating bonios. I understand from reading her posts that the bonios are strictly rationed and have been hidden.

I’ll let you into a secret Misaki, the bonios are top of the freezer!

You can see from the picture that Misaki even has a bonio collar decoration – don’t try to eat that Misaki!

This is the link to Misaki’s award post.

My favorite pot bellied pig (called Bacon) at Pig Love blog was also recently awarded the Readers Appreciation Award and kindly passed it on to Bassa’s Blog. Thank you Bacon!

I love Bacon but who doesn’t?

The tall person told me that pigs are highly social and intelligent animals and Bacon is no exception. He writes a weekly Dear Bacon column giving sound advice to other animals – it’s kind of like the reverse of casting pearls of wisdom before swine.

This is the link to Bacon’s award post.

My Nominations

I would like to acknowledge several of the newer blogs that I am following. Some are lovely, some are inspirational and all are a great read!

The Sunshine Award

The Adventures of Little Miss Maple Leaf (Happy Bark Days) – This blog documents the life of a red Toy Poodle named Little Miss Red Maple Leaf who lives in Singapore. It has lovely photos and great stories and brings a dash of tropical sunshine whenever I visit.

http://themisadventuresofmisaki.wordpress.com/

The Versatile Blogger Award

Office Dog Blog – This blogger is versatile! Buddy is the Office Dog at Roots Human Resources CIC, the UK’s first and only HR consultancy trading as a social enterprise. He says that the CEO looks uncannily like his mom – I think he means his human mom. Anyway, I like the idea of a dog with an office job and Buddy’s posts always make me smile.

His blog is packed full of funny stories and pictures of his crazy life with two other griffs (both girl griffs, lucky Rambo), a really old whatever kind of dog (his words!), a great Rottweiler named Atticus, cats (not real cats, like house cats, these are what the people call barn cats), and horses. http://onecoolgriff.wordpress.com/

And finally, I am not sure if it is entirely ethical because sometimes I think the tall person and me are one person but I want to make an award to my blogging mentor – the tall person – for his new blog, Georgia About.

I would like to pass on the Illuminating Blogger Award to thank him for lighting the way for me at Bassa’s Blog and for illuminating our beautiful country – Georgia – in his new blog.

Thank you tall person!

You make me shine!

I hope that everyone who has visited Bassa’s Blog has enjoyed the pictures and little stories.

Along the way, we have have made so many friends and have shared in their daily lives through their amazing blogs. We are honored to be blogging alongside so many talented blogging friends.

The week that was………fantastic!

On Wednesday next week Bassa’s Blog will be one year old – that is nearly as old as me!

I took my first tentative step into the wonderful world of blogging on 13 June 2011. Since then I have shared over 750 little stories and lots of photos about my daily life with the tall person, De, the little person, Lovely Mari, Mr. ‘Crazy’ Parrot (R.I.P.) and my kitten Barnaby here on our mountain overlooking the city of Tbilisi in the beautiful Republic of Georgia.

I have met so many wonderful people and dogs and cats (and one pot bellied pig) and now share in their daily lives through their stories and pictures they post on their blogs. It is an honor to be blogging alongside so many wonderful and talented friends.

I was going to do an anniversary post next week (and probably will still do) but this last week has been so amazing I decided to write this pre-anniversary post.

Most weeks are amazing but last week was especially amazing. It began and ended with a number of wonderful blogging awards from friends and in the middle something happened that took both me and the tall person completely by surprise.

The Facebook Surprise

On Thursday, one of my Facebook friends sent me a message to say that he saw a photo of me and the tall person on the popular Life With Dogs Facebook page. He sent me a link and there was my favorite photo of me and the tall person. I don’t know how it got there or who submitted it but I was very pleased.

Tall person stayed up very late reading the wonderful comments that people had made.

He told me that the photo received over 3,000 likes and my Facebook account had lots of new friend requests. Wow!

Georgia About Blog

‘Inspired’ by my blogging, the tall person recently set up a new blog to share his experiences of life in Georgia.

Called Georgia About it received its first blogging award last week.

Thank you Anne Alias of Mark It Research blog!

Tall person was very excited! He has been working very hard to show the best of the best of Georgia in the new blog.

Last week, he spent several very hot days in our local bakery finding out how traditional Georgian bread is made. He got very hot and to cool off he visited the Abanotubani Sulphur Baths in the city, which was great because he made a post about that too!

Please drop by and say hi:  http://georgiaabout.wordpress.com/

A Week of Awards

Since the tall person’s return from his recent trip to London we have been busy catching up with blogging friends and were delighted to see that many had received new blogging awards. Congratulations!

I was thrilled to discover that Bassa’s Blog was among the awardees, including one award that means the world to us – the Champion of the Heart Award.

Champion of the Heart Award

We were truly honored to receive an amazing award from Chuck and the Collies at Collies of the Meadow blog.

Chuck and the Collies told us that the new award is for those who they feel are not only the best of the best, but who truly give their best in their blog and live life loving others and giving all they have of themselves because they are Champions of the Heart.

Chuck explained that these are the characteristics of his beloved Collie, Trevor, who as many of you know is now in his final trip to the sunset of life.  Trevor has been a Champion Of The Heart to Chuck and Chuck and the Collies wanted to honor others who they feel portray the qualities that Trevor has displayed all his life.

Tall person and me are deeply touched and honored by the very special Champions Of The Heart Award. Knowing the meaning behind the award and the special place that Trevor holds in Chuck’s heart makes this the best award we have ever received. We will treasure it.

This is the link to Chuck’s award post. Please drop by and share in the antics of these wonderful Collies: http://colliesofthemeadow.wordpress.com/2012/06/05/collies-win-the-very-inspiring-blogger-award-gives-some-too/

Well, that was the week that was…………..FANTASTIC!

Thank you to everyone who made my week so special.

The meaning of joy!

The tall person returned from his trip to England last week and we are catching up on all of the news and stories from our blogging friends. I was delighted to hear that several had recently received new awards for their blogs and had passed on the awards to Bassa’s Blog.

I love writing blog award posts because it is an opportunity to highlight the amazing work of my blogging friends and thank them for making me smile and laugh and wonder and enjoy amazing stories and photos.

When preparing this post I looked up the definition of ‘Thank you’ and found out that is a polite expression used when acknowledging a gift, service, or compliment, or accepting or refusing an offer.

I mentioned this to the tall person and we both agreed that we needed something much more than a ‘polite expression’ to convey our gratitude.

After much ‘googling’ we decided that ‘joy’ more closely describes how we feel.

‘Joy’ is a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. Look at our faces!

It is with great joy that we congratulate our friends on receiving the following awards and thank them for passing them on to Bassa’s Blog:

Sunshine Award

Collies of the Meadow blog, Monica’s Tangled Web blog and Wayward Dogs blog were awarded the Sunshine Award and were very king enough to pass it on to Bassa’s Blog.

Sunshine Award

I received a very lovely Easter gift from kofegeek blog – a Sunshine Award!

I discovered that the Sunshine Award is given to ”bloggers who are inspirational, and who have impacted your blogging or your life”.

Wow, thank you so much kofegeek!

There are a number of rules attached to this award and I will be publishing a follow up post, together with my own nominations.

Please do check out kofegeek’s blog – in kofegeek you will find “a lot of articles, ranging from heavy, mild to popular and other resources to assist you in your coffee time”. So now I know what the tall person does when he has a coffee break!

ABC Award

Mysterycoach blog was recently awarded the ABC Award and passed the award to Bassa’s blog.

Congratulations Mysterycoach!

Thank you for thinking of me!

Mysterycoach writes about various things she sees people do, their behaviors, her miscellaneous thoughts about personal growth and anything else that stirs her interest. She warns that she talks about herself a lot and her experiences. I have followed Mysterycoach’s blog for a while now and can confirm that she does and it’s great!

ABC Award

My great blogging friend Laurie Bartolo at Laurie Bartolo Photography was also awarded an ABC Award and included Bassa’s Blog in her list of award nominations.

Although this award has the same name as the one mentioned above it does appear to be different.

Congratulations Laurie and thank you for thinking of Bassa’s Blog!

Laurie is renowned for her beautiful photographs of dogs as they go about their daily lives. Her photographs are candid and spontaneous and accurately capture real images of life for dogs in America.

Smoking is bad for gorillas

Several days ago the tall person praised me by telling me that I am a lert. I am still unsure what a lert is but he was smiling when he said it so that’s good enough for me. Today, I was surprised by another unfamiliar word, also given in the form of praise. I was told by Anne Alias (is that her real name?) from Mark It Research blog that I was outside of the “norm” and because of this I deserved an award. Thank you Anne Alias (are you sure that is your real name?), any crisis of identity that I may have had has been instantly resolved. I now know I am a lert who is outside of the norm.

This is the link to Anne’s award post.

You will see that Anne Alias has also given the award to 5 other bloggers who are also “outside of the norm”. Like me, each of them is probably a lert too.

You will see from the list of award recipients that Alexander Pseudonym has been given this award – is that his real name? Hmm, I am beginning to suspect that no one uses their real name in the blogging world.

Anyway, the award is called the Creative Chaos Award. Isn’t it cool? I love the colors!

I do hope the gorilla quits smoking soon because smoking is bad for gorillas.

The award comes with a number of rules, questions and requirements that are, given the context of the award, a little “outside of the norm” and I will need some time to consider these. I will do a follow up post as soon as I can.

Thank you so much for giving Bassa’s Blog this amazing award Anne Alias!

A family celebration!

The tall person told me that one of the best things about going away is coming home again and catching up with all the news. I couldn’t agree more!

We have spent the last couple of days catching up with all the news posted by our blogging friends. Some of it was happy news (Bongo’s Gotcha Day) and some of it was scary news (Chuck from Collies of the Meadow had a car crash) and some of it was very sad news (one of Chuck’s collies – Trevor – has had a stroke).

Being part of a blogging community means that we are part of an extended family that shares the ups and downs and happy times and sad times.

We also have occasions where we show how much we value and celebrate the creativity and uniqueness of other blogs and it is always a great pleasure to hear that the blogs that we follow and love to read are acknowledged by others that read them.

My good friends at Misty Shores Chesapeakes blog were recently awarded the One Lovely Blog Award. Isn’t it wonderful!

I was thrilled to read that they have kindly passed it on to Bassa’s Blog.

Thank you Cheyenne, Maia, Riva, the Boys and Titan!

I am sure you will recognize some of the other recipients. Congratulations to you all!

My friend Sarah at Sezpets was recently awarded the Versatile Blogger Award (by Bassa’s Blog) and in her post acknowledging the award she included me in the list of blogs she was passing the award on to!

Sarah said that she was not sure if she was allowed to nominate the person who nominated her… but she was doing it anyway! I’m not sure either but it was a lovely gesture. Thank you Sarah at Sezpets!
