A Christmas Surprise (update)

In a recent post I shared my plan to surprise everyone and decorate the house with a fabulous Christmas tree. I had already identified a suitable tree in the garden (it’s actually a bush) and had been waiting for the right moment to dig it up and bring it into the house.

The right moment came this morning.

The tall person had a lie in and De responded to my wake up call. De can’t read my mind like the tall person can so I knew she would not realise what I was doing in the garden.

I set to work, dug up the tree and dragged it to the veranda to trim some of its branches – I prefer a minimalist look.

I had almost completed my artistic trimming and was about to drag the Christmas tree surprise into the house when I heard the tall person talking to De.

I had run out of time, the tall person was awake and would be able to read my mind!

Sure enough, he came out to the veranda and found me and found the tree.

He didn’t say anything as I watched him re-plant my Christmas tree in the hole where it used to live in the garden.

You spoiled my surprise tall person.

He looked at me with a resigned look on his face.

“I am never surprised by your ideas Bassa”.

I liked that response. It confirmed what I already knew – we are on the same wavelength tall person but next time have a longer lie in and I may yet surprise you!

  1. Wow! You said you were going to dig it up and you did! It sounds like Tall Person was not so happy…. however you did this with love in your heart so I am sure he understands. Dogs do seem to have that gardening ability. I used to have a Rose Garden but the collies were over enthusiastic in their trimming it and the Roses are all gone now. A row of beautiful cedars are now short and scraggly looking and various other plants are now gone due to over trimming, over watering and other such gardening methods by the collies. 🙂 This interest in gardening does pass with time, so take heart tall person. I know how you feel!

    God Bless You!

    Chuck and the Collies

    • I am a dog of my word Chuck! Following a similar bush incident earlier in the year I had retired from gardening but had decided to come out of retirement for this special occasion. Tall person has given up on the garden. Like you he had roses and lots of lovely plants and bushes but like the Collies I was over enthuisiastic with their maintenance and they reacted badly to my ‘bonsai’ approach 🙂

  2. Bassa! Of course I remember what you were planning for this Christmas surprise and was very much looking for it….Yeeees! you did it!!! Woo hooooo! Congratulations! I know your tall person made it re-plant, but you did dig it up anyway and made him a kind of surprised! Hehehe… great!!! 🙂 🙂 🙂

  3. Sometimes Peeps have no idea what is ImPAWtant in life. They seem to lack a sense of appreciation fur the finer thingys in life. Sheeeeesh.

  4. My person says I did lots of gardening when I was a pup. I don’t prune shrubs so much anymore, though. Now I mostly help dig. My favorite place is in the back of the garden where the gophers tunnel. One of these days, I’m going to catch one.

  5. Awwww, how sweet of you Bassa to want to surprise them with a trimmed Christmas tree. We are sorry it did not work out as planned. Chancy understands well your disappointment. Since your tall person replanted the tree maybe you will be successful next Christmas digging it up, trimming it and getting it in the house. Hugs and nose kisses

    • The tall person is always thwarting my plans! I shall have to think of something else and try not to think of it because he will read my mind and thwart me again 🙂 Big hugs for you, Mumsy and the crew!

  6. Our trees are much too big for me to dig up, so I work on the yucca plants in the back yard. I could send you one Bassa. You have to be careful with them though. They’re very pokey.
