How many times a day do we hear the word, ‘wait’? If you are like me you probably hear it a lot. ‘Wait’ to go out, ‘wait’ for a tasty treat, ‘wait’ at the side of the road before crossing, ‘wait’ to play ball. The number of ‘waits’ are endless but would our lives be better if we never needed to wait? Would it be better to have everything we wanted when we wanted it? I thought about this today when I was waiting to go out and decided that not waiting for anything sounds appealing but we would lose something special if we never needed to wait. I think that waiting for things and anticipating them is one of the pleasures of life. It certainly makes me appreciate things more.
The tall person told me that there are a number of sayings about waiting – ‘all good things are worth waiting for’ and ‘if it is worth having it is worth waiting for’ and ‘all good things come to those who wait’. He said that people who never want to wait for anything and expect everything the instant they want it will eventually lose joy in everything.
Hmm, I am waiting to go out and I am enjoying every moment.
